Welcome to my monthly horoscope for the month of July 2020 as per the 12 rising signs.

The highlight of this month is Saturn’s entry in tropical Capricorn where he will stay till 16 Dec 2020 and Mars’ entry in Aries where he will stay till the end of the year. This may create tensions and stressed situations in all cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra & Capricorn)

One may expect some recurring themes from 2017 and early 2020 when similar planetary situation was present in the sky.

In addition to the ongoing economic slowdown comes a new threat – a new coronavirus. The last Saturn-Pluto conjunction brought us AIDS.

Countries have implemented lockdowns across their cities and the world’s population is learning a new concept – quarantined in our own homes.

The Astrology behind COVID-19.

The Astrology behind COVID-19

Novel Coronavirus disease 2019, also known as COVID-19 is an highly infectious disease of the respiratory system. It was first identified in Wuhan, China in Nov-Dec’19 and since then spread globally to pandemic proportions. As of 19^th March 2020, nearly 2,00,000 persons were affected resulting in approx. 9300 deaths worldwide, and the numbers are growing day-by-day. 

An event of such a global proportion requires an equally strong astrological co-relation. And what better occasion than coming together of the two most dreaded harbingers of worldwide plague & misery – Saturn & Pluto. (Think World War outbreak & Hiroshima-Nagasaki bombings)

In my year ahead 2020 forecast written in December, I had stressed upon this conjunction as the main astrological event of the year 2020. The year will bear the mark of this coming together and its dreaded memories will linger in our current generation for years to come.

Coming to the astrology of COVID-19, I have identified the key players & the supporting cast behind this global epidemic as under –

a.       Key players – Saturn & Pluto: The conjunction & its possible manifestations are described in some detail in my previous blog ‘Year ahead 2020’.

b.       Secondary player – Jupiter: Planet for expansion & is considered as the greater benefic, but due to his unfortunate sign placement & proximity to more powerful malefics, helped disease to ‘expand’ it’s legs instead.  

c.       Tertiary booster – Mars: The other malefic & capable of doing small scale damage, but due to assistance from larger malefics gained in his ‘dark’ strength and caused wide-spread damage.              

d.       South Node Ketu – In Indian astrology, Ketu is given equal status to Mars. And his presence alongwith the two malefics, created a ‘false’ sense of security in the minds of people & caused lapses in precautionary measures taken by government agencies.

Let us see the chronology of the disaster and role played by each of the players above in each stage of this global disaster which will be remembered for many years to come.

Stage 1 – The Origin

17 November 2019 – Doctors in Wuhan province in China come across cases of a virulent ‘flu’ which causes severe coughing & high fever. Within few days, multiple cases of people affected with a similar flu are coming to local doctors who identify it as a new ‘coronavirus’ and research work about its cause is started. Saturn is 4 degrees away from Pluto, Jupiter is still in Sagittarius. However quietly Mars has entered Scorpio – the sign of death. However, as Scorpio is also a silent & secretive sign the malefic impact is not known to the world.

25 December 2019 – A powerful solar eclipse occurred at 4 degree of Capricorn. Eclipses are powerful timing tools as the sign & house in which the eclipse falls activates the planets positioned in it & exact degree of the eclipse remains active for many months after the actual eclipse.

Stage 2 – The local spread

During December to January, as Mars passed through Sagittarius, an expansive & fiery sign the epidemic spread like wild fire among China. The world came to know about this ‘bomb’ within few days of the exact Saturn & Pluto conjunction had taken place on 13^th January. To make matters worse, Jupiter the planet of expansion entered Capricorn - its sign of debilitation i.e neech rashi and it added extra fuel to the spread of the disease by its quality of expansion.

Stage 3 – Growth to Pandemic proportions.  

16^th February – Mars entered Capricorn, the sign of its exaltation. Planets in their exaltation are considered the strongest and a first grade malefic with fuel of Jupiter and the backing of Saturn & Pluto got a ‘freehand’ to kill people at drop of a hat. The epidemic spread like a wild fire across countries & continents unchecked and people realised the devastating killing power of Mars – the planet for war & bloodshed.

March – Ketu conjoins 4 degree Capricorn and activates the December solar eclipse degree – In Indian astrology, Ketu is considered the planet of ‘Moksh’ and the ‘shadow’ of Mars. Its entry in the already populated mix of planets caused chaos and a feeling of false security. In another viewpoint (which may not be agreed upon by many people), Ketu helped attain ‘moksh’ to many elderly people who were waiting to be freed from their suffering. (Approx. 90% of deaths in Italy were above the age of 70).

Stage 4 – The future      

Saturn enters Aquarius on 22^nd March for its 2.5 year stay. It will go slip back in Capricorn again during its retrograde period in the later part of the year & re-enter Aquarius in late December.

Social Distancing – We hear this term very often during this period. Social Distancing is a direct manifestation of Saturn in Aquarius. Aquarius is Saturn’s sign of intellect, community, alliances & social reform and a welcome relief from the strict & organisational Capricorn.

Why 31^st March – Ever since I have heard this date, I had a feeling that this is date is taken after consulting an astrologer. As that is the date of the conjunction of Mars & Saturn – the two malefics, in the early degrees of Aquarius. That is the date around which the epidemic may peak and fear & panic may reach its culmination point.

Aquarius is the sign of inventions & community wellbeing and the passage of Saturn will help boost organisational efforts to find out a cure for this virus.

A Possible Relapse – In the middle of May, both Jupiter and Saturn turn retrograde. Retrograde planets indicate revisiting past themes & the entry of Saturn in Capricorn in July may cause a minor relapse. Government agencies should avoid getting complacent till Saturn re-enters Aquarius in late December.

The cure – Jupiter enters Aquarius in late December 2020. Since it is the planet of opportunities & benevolence and Aquarius is the sign of inventions, its entry will boost the finding of a cure for this virus. Immediately after its entry, it conjoins Saturn in the early degrees of Aquarius in late December. The next 2-3 months may see rapid developments towards finding a cure for this virus.
