Saturn Saadesaati – Celestial “Mirror of Life”.

Saturn Saadesaati – Celestial “Mirror of Life”.

Hi Friends,

Today we will look upon a topic whose name itself brings fear in the minds of common persons. I am talking about Saturn’s Saadesaati. This is the most common terminology used by street astrologers to bring fear into the minds of a person consulting them. Astrologers in our country use Saturn’s fear extensively for their monetary benefit...!!!

Let me come to our topic for today – Shani Saadesaati. As the name suggests, this is a 7.5 year period during which the planet Saturn or Shani passes over the position of Moon in our birth horoscope. As per Nirayan Astrology, Saturn takes 2.5 years to pass one Zodiacal Sign or Rashi. Hence to complete 3 signs, it will take around 7.5 years, hence the name ‘Saadesaati’.

Let me explain with the help of an example –
In the a horoscope Moon is in 1st Rashi i.e Aries at the time of birth. When transiting Saturn enters one sign before the birth sign i.e Pisces it will be said that the Saadesaati of this person has started. The breakup of 7.5 years is as under –
1.       Saturn enters in Pisces – First 2.5 years
2.       Saturn enters in Aries    – Middle 2.5 years
3.       Saturn enters in Taurus – Last 2.5 years.

In Sayana Astrology, houses are divided by house cusps and can begin at any degree of a sign. Hence as per Sayana system, this period will be when transiting Saturn approaches to just 45 degrees away from natal Moon and continues till it passes 45 degrees away from the degree in which natal Moon is positioned. In Western Astrology this is known as ‘Hunting of Moon’.

Why ‘Moon’ and why not any other planet? Well in astrology Moon represents mind/thinking of a person. And Moon & Saturn are natural enemies of each other. Hence when transit Saturn passes over birth Moon it disturbs our mind & mental peace. This will be experience by all persons during this period.

Our scriptures write as this period being tough and all kinds of bad things will happen during this period. However this is far from true. Although this period is tough however it is in tough times that we get to experience things that we can never experience in our happy-go-lucky times.

Remedial Measures – Although in my personal opinion there is no such thing as a ‘remedy’ but as written in our scriptures, if we do the following things the effects of Saadesaati are said to be reduced –
1.       Doing fasting on Saturdays.
2.       Feeding old/poor men on Saturdays.
3.       Chanting Hanuman Chalisa on Saturdays.
4.       Offering oil to Hanuman on Saturdays.
There can be no harm in doing the above things if we can...!!
In mythology, it is believed that Lord Shani has blessed Lord Hanuman that if anyone worships him, Lord Shani will not trouble him during Saadesaati time.

Small Panoti – There is also a small corollary to Saadesaati – it is called as Small Panoti or ‘Dhaiyaa’. It occurs when Transit Saturn comes to 90 degress & 180 degrees from Natal Moon. Although not as hard as the main Saadesaati it is also a tough period in life depending on natal position of moon.

Monthly Saadesaati – Few astrologers know that there is also a monthly Saadesaati which occurs when transit Moon passes over our Natal 6th, 8th & 12th houses. Moon takes 2.5 days to pass one house. During these times we may experience stress at work/home/business, quarrels between spouses, and loss of peace in general.
In astrology, Saturn is also called ‘The Great Teacher’ as he first punishes and then teaches the lesson. In real life also, this period teaches us life’s hardest lessons like money managing, using optimum resources, learning to do things in our own way, etc.

To sum it up - Saturn is not a villain, it only you forces you to face your own limitations & consequences of your own actions.
